Earth Day Fest
April 19, 2008

In addition to art, entertainment, and educational exhibitors, we will offer unique opportunities for members of the community to learn about recycling many household items that are normally discarded.   The following exhibitors will have booths with educational material, as well as recycling bins.   Members of the community are invited to bring the items described below to the event.

The Lion’s Club will accept used eye glasses for their vision program.

Batteries Plus will have recycling bins to accept most commonly used household batteries including NiCad, NiMh, lithium ion,  lead acid batteries (both “wet” like automotive, and “dry or sealed” like wheel chairs), computer UPS batteries, silver oxide (watches, clocks, calculators), as well as old cell phones and cordless drill packs.  They will have a truck to load automotive batteries.   They cannot accept two kinds of batteries, mercury (used in some old cameras) and Liquid NiCad (primarily used in industrial applications).

The Teacher Supply Depot  is a consortium of  individuals, businesses, and the Shoals Chamber of Commerce.   They collect and refurbish items that can be used by teachers in the classroom.   They will take basic educational tools such as pens, paper, crayons, paperclips, and arts and crafts supplies such as construction paper, poster board, wallpaper, fabric samples, yarn, foam, and egg containers.   Also, they would love to have your old working computers, printers, digital cameras, and calculators.   They refurbish the computers and reload basic software for classroom use.

We hope you join us in recycling for a healthier planet
